New Beginnings – Old Fears
We all know the feeling when it’s time to make a change, even though it manifests in everyone differently. Some of us feel frustrated or unmotivated, others become angry or stressed, while still others – the truly admirable ones – simply pull up their socks and take that first, bold step towards a new life.
For most of us, however, change is not so easy to come by. Too much stress can cause us to decide there isn’t enough time to invest in change. Fear can convince us that we won’t succeed. In all walks of life, from boardrooms and the world of business to elite athletes on the sports field or race track, we find people who know they need to make a change but don’t know how to begin.
As this is the inaugural post on my new website, FastTrack Success, it seems only fitting to reflect on new beginnings just moments after I’ve taken the first step on a fresh start of my own. One of the most important things I’ve realized is that while the power to change comes from within, we often need a helping hand along the way. As a Performance Coach, I’ve seen countless teams and individuals make the transformations they need in their work and personal lives, frequently relying on others as sounding boards to test ideas, develop strategies, and see their desired achievements to fruition.
As much as FastTrack Success and my evolution as a coach are my own achievements, they owe much to the personal and professional contributions of those around me: the coaching community who lent an inspirational hand throughout the process; the creative team who walked me through branding, designing, writing and launching this website. That I could not have done it without them is a testament to the strength we can draw from ourselves when we reach out to and connect with others.
We all have goals, ambitions or targets that we want to achieve, a level of peak performance we always knew was there but didn’t previously know how to access. Sometimes a helping hand can be just what you need to kick-start your own personal and professional transformation and realize your full potential. What changes do you want to make in your life? What small change can you make to start, and what other changes will that lead to for you?
In the spirit of new beginnings, I wish you, well, a new beginning! Find those individuals who inspire and support you, and who will be a source of strength throughout the process. You can achieve more, so much more, than you think.
Here’s to turning over a new leaf.
Cheers,
Greg
